ACCELERATORSeach world is randomly generated (planets, moons, sky colour) and linked by 1–2 acceleration portals: kilometres-wide launch tracks of light laid flat on the plane — two ribbons of blue current, coils thrown across between them, racing away to a wall of energy. the open end is the intake. nothing about a portal is solid: you can fly straight through one untouched. what a portal can do to you is grab you, and its grip is a field.
FLYING ONEcome at the open end and the machine takes you — you do not have to be lined up. its grip is a field standing in front of the intake, as wide across as the current and a little past it, and the dashed arc on the radar is exactly that wide. anything inside it that the mouth is facing gets hauled in, squared up with the lane and thrown down it. the panel reads FIELD AHEAD as you come near a live grip, HAUL-IN while it is dragging you to the throat, then ON THE RAIL. you are on the rail — controls are along for the ride. cross the energy wall and you arrive beyond the far end of the linked accelerator, in the next system.
GRAVITYevery planet and moon pulls, and what matters is the pull at the face: about 43 m/s² at the clouds and 20 on a moon, against a main engine that gives you 145 — so holding station is easy, setting down is a decision, and a moon is a small hard well rather than a shrug. escape speed off a moon is 25–110 m/s, so you can put it down on one and fly back off it. you are redeployed in orbit: let go of the throttle and you fall forever, around the world rather than into it — until a moon leans on you hard enough to change your mind. nothing out there brakes you but air and SHIFT: speed is something you spend now, not something you quietly lose. the GRAV readout is the pull you are feeling right now.
THE PLANEevery world is flat: planets, moons, the sun and every accelerator stand in one plane. you can point the nose at the sky and climb out of it, but only about three planet-widths above or below — past that you are stopped.
